|--in which I attempt to put my Burning Man experience partially into words
[This is not the entry where I tell stories, or talk about the art. This is me trying to chronicle my experience from an intellectual, emotional, psychological, and spiritual standpoint.]
Firstly, I shall begin by saying that one can tell stories of being there, and do those stories justice. One can show photos of the artwork or the art cars, and possibly do them justice. One can draw diagrams and point to maps, explain the dust and chronicle the events. But I have not yet figured out a way to describe being
there. It's one of those transcendent experiences that defies the language barrier.
Perhaps because it was my first year. Ask me in a year's time and I'll have a better idea.( And now, dear friends...Collapse )

|All Good Things...
I won't be needing my "sins cast" filter anymore.
I am the newest addition to the Sins o' the Flesh alumni.
Since it's not really something I need to keep hidden anymore, I have no real compunction about talking about my thoughts regarding leaving cast now.
I've been thinking about quitting for awhile. I didn't like a lot of the new developments in the cast's direction, new policies and such. Really, starting with the 4th of July, having fun at the show became less and less in line with being on Security. For the past few weeks I was having a lot of fun talking and interacting with the audience, and really not liking the fact that doing so was incompatible with doing the job of a Security guard.
I was also getting invited to do more things as I attained greater levels of success in my endeavor to change my life in the positive ways I wanted. Things that happened on Saturday nights, events that I quite enjoyed and was loathe to leave, but had to because of my Rocky obligations.
And then there's the aspect of just growing out of it. I was. It's that simple. Plus, with graduation coming in 8 weeks and the impending "getting a job" crisis, I might have had no choice but to quit soon in the interests of time management.
I still intend to go to the show, most weeks but not all, because I have a lot of friends there and I enjoy the good nights with great audiences that are a lot of fun. But now I have the freedom of an alumni to come and go as I choose, play and have fun as I will, and none of the cast responsibilities to hold me back/down.
And so, with this I close this chapter of my life and begin the new one.~fin~
he clock in my bedroom read exactly noon. I had succeeded in sleeping through Sunday morning, and now the light streamed through the blinds, filling the room...

|Since I haven't seen it posted yet...
Sins is throwing a New Years Eve party. It's going to be tons of fun. But you know what'd make it even more fun? YOU.
It's in North Hills (just off the 405 at Nordhoff). Comment here if you'd like the address.
All are welcome. Donations are welcome in the form of liquor, mixers, or cash. It will probably get "officially" underway around 8 p.m.

If you saw a police car with ME in it, what would you think I got arrested for?
Post your answer here and then post this question on your LJ and see how many crimes you get accused of!!!!

|Sorry Guy Fawkes...
Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Election Season we got,
I can think of no reason
Why this Election Season
Should ever be forgot.
Obama, Obama, t'was his intent
To replace old Shrub from the Senate.
Millions of grassroots members below
Would prove old McCain's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
On a wave of change the GOP couldn't match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the people sing.

Does anybody have a pair of size 13 stompy boots that I can borrow for the Rocky Horror con? You'll get them back in the same condition you loan them out in, I promise. I just don't want to buy a pair of my own that I'll probably never wear again.

Yeah, I know. Seems like fantasy talk, right?
Well, maybe not. A biotech firm called LS9
in Silicon Valley has announced something truly astounding. They have, in essence, engineered bacteria that break down organic waste and produce petroleum.
Some of you, specifically those with biochem knowledge, may be saying "BWAH?!" right about now. Check out this link
. It explains a lot about their claims, and presents the info in relatively easy-to-understand language for the rest of us. You can also read this article
for some different information but the same basic thrust.
What it boils down to is these bacteria, if used in large quantities successfully, will produce petroleum products in what is very nearly their final form. Instead of Flex-Fuels which require a whole new distribution system, these will simply be used instead of existing oil products, but in their place. They'll go through existing pipelines, into existing gas stations, and into existing engines. Or be used for other oil-based products. Like plastics, fertilizers, etc.
It's serious enough that the president of LS9 is a guy who spent 26 years as one of the big wigs at Shell Oil.
The company is releasing some of their scientific schematics soon, so if any debunking happens it will shortly follow those releases.
Really, check out those links. It's pretty fucking amazing. And while it won't solve the global warming concerns, it will help somewhat (read the articles). Also, it will be abig step towards solving the foreign oil concerns and could create a metric fuckton of new jobs in the U.S. Neither of which are bad things.

So, there was this group of folk at CSUN today with the big banners of the "Everyone is going to Hell except for me" variety. You know the type. Adulterers, fornicators, sodomites, homosexuals, blah blah blah blah are all going to be judged by Jesus Christ when he comes back.
These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.
Anyway, there's two guys who seem to be tag-teaming the yelling and screaming out their crazy bullshit on campus, and I decide to kill some time before class by hanging out and getting some good comedy out of it. A group has formed, encircling this one guy as he continues to proselytize and antagonize the audience. Pretty simple, nothing fancy, except that this guy was not able to keep up with college kids who have been trained in empiricism (and several in debate apparently). They laid traps for this guy and he fell in each and every one of them. At one point, the subject of abortion came up, and he said what anybody would expect him to say: abortion is wrong, you should keep the baby no matter what, blah blah blah blah blah. Sob story about a girl who is a product of rape and her mother didn't have an abortion, and we should all live our lives that way. Yadda yadda yadda. Anyway, one person asks him if he thinks aborted fetuses are going to Hell. He says yes. So this guy says "You know, even the Pope doesn't believe that. Are you saying that the Pope is wrong?"
And this guy, I shit you not, says "Well then the Pope needs to be saved too."
The. Pope. Needs. To. Be. Saved. Too.
I tried to get him to say it on film, other people got it on their cameras or phones, but I just didn't get mine up and running in time.
There was other comedic gold in the hour I spent standing there, being highly amused, but that by far took the cake.

Anyone available to help me move two couches into my apartment tonight? I get out of work around 9:15-9:30, and I need to finish unloading the storage pod before it gets picked up tomorrow.
The really heavy stuff has already been moved, I just need someone to help with the two pieces of a corner couch.
So yeah. Let me know if you can help. Call, text, or e-mail. Or reply here.

The Move has begun. I've done two carloads of boxes, and have two (maybe three?) left before it's only furniture left here. I'll probably do the rest of the boxes tonight, perhaps even start the furniture move with Sean's truck. It will all be completed by Monday night at the latest.
Fun fact: I had 13 boxes of stuff that I never unpacked the entire six months that I've lived here. Made the move that much easier. :-P
BTW, if anyone wants my Asus A7N8X-Deluxe motherboard with an AMD 2800+ chipset, you can have it. Just let me know. I might even be able to get a case for it (the one it's in is warped and wrecked beyond usability).
I'm also selling the 512 of RAM (2 256 chips) for $40.

|Future Party Date
and I discussed this awhile ago, but I just checked the dates and it'd work out.
Saturday, June 21 is the Summer Solstice.
Expect a party of some sort. Not necessarily in the city. Current Mood: Druidic

and I spotted this sign on Buena Vista near Magnolia. The photo was taken with my phone, so you can't see much other than the lit portion of the sign. Still, that's enough.

I'm tired of not watching basketball. I don't give a shit about football, and I've never really been intensely interested in baseball. I used to play basketball and even before that I enjoyed watching it.
But no one else that I'm aware of seems to like it.
So, does anyone who enjoys watching basketball want to hang out with me at for at least some of the games this season?

Sean and I got an apartment in Van Nuys. We'll be signing the lease either Monday or Tuesday, and moving stuff over the course of that week.
Expect a party announcement for sometime in mid-April.
